We went to our Upstate Master Naturalist meeting and did a nature hike at Hagood Mill in Pickens, SC. We passed a huge field of cotton. I can't imagine having to pick this by hand and even spinning it! 1/26/12

Corner 025
Here is the corner of our playroom. The Sego Palm sits on a plant stand near our hot tub. Hopefully the humidity helps keep it alive in the winter. 1/25/12

Carving 024
Here is a wood carving we bought on one of our travels. I thought the man in the wood looked so wise and thoughtful. When I look at him, he also seems very kind. I am always fascinated when I see carvings like this in wood.

Year of the Dragon 023
This is my collection of dragons. The one in the back was in our house while I was growing up. When I got married, my mother gave this one to me. The green one is actually a little teapot. The one on the right is a wax candle. 1/23/12

Drop Spindles 020
These are my 3 drop spindles that I use for spinning fiber. People have used drop spindles for hundreds of years. In some cultures, children begin spinning on these at a very young age.

Light Source 017
This is the light source in my kitchen. My ceilings are 11 feet high so I had to find the perfect light fixture for this room. I like the way this one looks. 1/17/12
Containers 016
We have picked up these different items at flea markets and antique shops. I like the way they all look different but old. 1/16/12
Pecans 015
We have 2 boxes of pecans from our pecan trees. I need to crack them and freeze them but I am too lazy to do that. Eventually I will get them done. 1/15/12

Stain Glass 012
This is a lampshade on the lamps in my Living room. I love when the afternoon sun hits them. I found it interesting that when I was taking this picture, one of the panels looked purple through the lens but when I saw the picture, there was no purple. I guess it was the light hitting the panel. 1/12/12
Flooring 011
Here is the floor tiles on the bathroom floor. We live in a pretty old house and I love all the tile work throughout my house. 1/11/12
Vent 010
This was the air vent for the fan on my treadmill. I keep forgetting it is there and don't use it. Maybe now that I took a picture of it, I will use it. 1/10/12
Heater 009
We heat about 4 rooms in the winter because our house is so big and shut the doors off to the rest of the house. Unfortunately my bathroom is on the cold side of the house. So, rather than heating up that area, I just use a space heater when I take a shower. I think it saves us a lot of money. 1/9/12

Gardening Boots 008
These are the boots I wear when I garden. They are perfect especially when the soil is wet and muddy. Plus I like how colorful they are. These remind me of when I was a little girl and my parents bought me galoshes. 1/8/12
Umbrella Palm 007
We have had unseasonably warm temperatures so my Umbrella Palm is still green. These are great to use in flower arrangements. According to Wikipedia, “Cyperus alternifolius (umbrella papyrus, umbrella sedge or umbrella palm) is a grass-like plant in the very large genus Cyperus of the sedge family, Cyperaceae. It is native to Madagascar, but is frequently cultivated worldwide.” 1/7/12

Fibery Goodness 006
Here is some fiber I ordered from Miss Babs to spin. It is 80% Merino Wool and 20% Tussah Silk. The colorway is Chicory. I really enjoy spinning my own yarn and the more I do the better I seem to be getting. 1/6/12
Icy 005
This morning I watched a cardinal come to my water garden for some water. But it couldn't get any because the water was frozen. So I went out with my trusty hammer and broke up the ice for my little bird friends. 1/5/12
Reaching Out 004
When I look up at these branches, it looks like they are reaching for the sky. Even in the dead of winter, there is hope. I know that when spring comes, green leaves will appear and new growth begins again. 1/4/12
Cannas 003
I look at these and think about how beautiful these Cannas looked in the summer. They were tall green leaves and vibrant red flowers. Even when they are dead, there stalks show the life and strength they had. 1/3/12
